Learn to Say H*ll NO and Other Habits to Adopt in 2014

January 2, 2014

I’m not much of a resolution girl but I have been in deep thought about new habits to adopt in 2014 to make my life easier, encourage personal growth and see the ideas in my head go from thought to manifestation.

I am by no means an expert, but as I created my list for the new year I thought I might share them with you!

NO

Just Say NO:  Assuming you aren’t into recreational drug use this “Just Say No” has not a thing to do with Reagan’s campaign but everything to do with managing YOUR time and maintaining YOUR sanity.

Saying no shouldn’t be as hard as it is, but some of us feel the need to be helpful when in reality when we refuse to say NO we are often times making life harder for ourselves. In the new year I’ve vowed to never answer someone right away if I can help it. I have decided to respond by saying I need to check my calendar to allow myself time to decide if taking on said task will actually be feasible for me to accomplish without too much disruption to my routine. I give you permission to add H*ll no as necessary so that said party knows its real and to come correct before asking you to do things they could surely do themselves.

Write it Down: You would think this one is self explanatory and obvious, however as a person who has left the bread and milk in the grocery store when they were the main items I went for….I think pencil and paper need to be my friend in the new year.

Keeping track of children’s schedules, room mom duties and bills my mind will play tricks on me. I’ve found lately that if I make lists of the things I need to do, things I need to buy and places I need to be my mind doesn’t seem as cluttered and I don’t feel AS flustered.  I’ve bribed myself into this new habit my purchasing a plethora of planners, journals, pencils and pens. Make these necessary evils pretty and you are more likely to make proper use of them.

Plan Tasks and Allocate Time: Again, in the past my important tasks were jumbled in my head along with where I might find an AKA sweatshirt and if not careful the latter would come before the necessary and I would be left at the end of the day SMH because the important tasks weren’t accomplished but I had my sweatshirt though. This is a true story.

I am now writing down my tasks daily and prioritizing them by importance and allocating a time frame in which each needs to be completed. All business related matters are handled first and everything else comes second. If I haven’t completed the task in the allotted time I move on to the next task and come back around to it after all important tasks have been touched. Of course this is up for revision depending on how important the task is. I am finding this to be beneficial in making sure I get everything done daily.

Accountability Partners: Birds of a feather flock together anyone? There is nothing worse than starting in the same place as someone and they make moves and you are left standing where you started. Use a little friendly competition and let accountability to a like minded person push you forward in 2014.

The key is finding that person that will politely READ you if you haven’t accomplished that goal and reported back within the specified time. I have found some accountability partners where I will be embarrassed and shamed if I didn’t at least have some sort of update to give them on my goal progress. Sometimes being accountable to ourselves isn’t enough. We need deadlines and sometimes we need positive people to help us enforce them.

Start It. Finish It: In the past I have been the master of starting a million things and finishing none of them. Call me Jemimah of all trades, master of none. I’m tired of not seeing things through to completion when I know I have the ability to finish them.

The key to this I believe is being realistic with oneself before starting on a journey. Anything is possible but the real question is do you have the passion to see it through. Answering those hard questions before starting may help with making sure completion becomes the ultimate goal. I’ve decided to sit down and take the time as well as consult with my accountability partners before setting off on anything new. Sometimes perspective will let us know the likelihood of us finishing something before we even start.

Y’all know I’m no kind of expert on life but I’ve made enough mistakes and as I knock on 35 I have come to the conclusion that processes are not here to hurt us but to make us better. I’ll roll with it.

Have you had an epiphany on new habits to adopt that may help some of us? I implore you to share! #SharingIsCaring

2013 Was Epic

December 31, 2013

This time last year my mind was in a whirlwind. I knew going into 2013 there were two major hurdles ahead of me/us. Number 1 was moving and 2. was becoming an AKA. Both were up in the air and I had no idea how or if either would happen.

My level of faith in 2013 was like no other. We started building a house that we didn’t end up moving in because God blessed us with THE HOUSE that had everything that we needed AND wanted after looking at 1,687,467 houses that didn’t work.

Stories

Lately I’ve been finding myself riding in the car without the radio playing. I’ll be far entrenched in my thoughts before I realize that I am riding in silence and at that point I choose to let my thoughts supercede the noise of the radio.

As I was riding alone today in silence it hit me how extremely blessed I am. While my life isn’t perfect, I have finally reached a point in my life where I want for nothing and that statement has absolutely nothing to do with material things. I briefly flashed back to very hard times in my life when I was pretty sure that God had left me dangling but I held on to my faith because that was my only connection to something good when everything around me seemed to be going wrong.

I’ve told some of my story here,  you think you know but you have NO idea. If God can bring me from a place of sorrow and darkness into a place of abundance and light He can do the same for you.

I’m in my feelings this evening. Can’t you tell! Keep trusting. He is faithful….If anybody knows, I know. Just make sure you are giving Him something to work with!

Randoms…Moving Edition

Moving

Happy Friday!

I’ve been MIA for good reason. We finally closed on our new house, packed up our old house, moved and closed on our old house. So much testimony service in those processes that I will be back to tell the stories in depth. However, for now that’s all I have for you.

Moving

Out of the gate we have some major superficial issues with the house. The house got a gleaming rating during its inspection, so I’m keeping my sanity holding on to that. The issues we are facing are interior… I know.

End of Year Pleasantries

December 25, 2012

I just went back and read my blog posts from this time last year and it literally feels like this year flew by. I mean flew like a G6. Gone like Justin Timberlake.

This year went exceptionally well for me. I never take these things for granted, and in the past when my mind would wander in negative places I would think a good year was simply a setup for a bad one. Thank goodness for growth because I am looking at 2012 as only a small snippet of what is to come in 2013.

There have been mistakes and mishaps just as there has been good decisions and blessings. I take the good with the bad and I am ready for the new year. Sometime between now and the end of the week I will sit down with some of my old magazines…I mean old cause y’all know how I am about my beloved mailed publications and make me vision board. I have never done one so I am anxious to put those jumblings in my mind onto something visually creative to refer to during the year.

My major goals for the new year are:

To get moved into our new home

Seriously grow my blog

Start a new business ( it is in the workings…I’ll tell you in the new year)

Complete some major dental work that I have been putting off because I’m scared

Live in the moment and enjoy my life…This one trumps every.thang. EVERYTHANG!

I hope your end of the year is going well and your plans are well under the way so that you can hit the ground running. I have been scarce around these parts for the past few weeks and it is likely I will not be around to your blogs or on social media for the remainder of the year…lies.

I just want you to know that I appreciate all of you for stopping by here, interacting with me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. For taking out the time to type in comments and show concern and love when its needed. I take none of these things for granted and you all are appreciated. I wish you a Merry Christmas. I will see you guys in the New Year!!

Weekend Wrap Up and Goings On

April 16, 2012

Well hey there

Last week, I took a breather of sorts. Laid low and worked on my game plan so Mimi sightings were scarce on the interwebs.

This past weekend was easy like Sunday morning. A kiddie birthday party, a trip to the Goodwill, some food on the grill and that was about as wild and crazy as it got over here.

I got a chance to catch up with a few awesome ladies that I went to college with at the birthday party. One of these beautiful young ladies is the National Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee. #OBAMA2012…FAMU baby.

Now for some randomness…

Call me the Sgt.  around these parts. I got that potty bootcamp jumping. Two weeks ago I sent out an APB on Twitter for tips on potty training and overwhelmingly people said they employed the bootcamp method. I was apprehensive…VERY. I decided to give it a try and wouldn’t you know this baby is pretty much potty trained. I put panties on her and we spent most of our time outdoors. She watered the concrete, the grass, her shoes, and her car..ick.

Should say Glitter and Go Pee Pee..That bleach commercial about the little boy using the potty and the look on the mother's face..yeah. that.

Two days later she started saying I pee pee on the pot and I would rush her to the pot and she would go. No more than one accident a day at this point.*blows horns* I’m not sure I’m ready to take her out without some reinforcement so I put some of those plastic panties over her regular ones but she will still tell me. Still in diapers at night. Need more detailed tips? Get at me.

Well that was long.

Next.

May 6-11 I will be in Miami taking a week long course to finally finish up my MBA program. I finished my coursework a year ago but I have to complete this class to get my degree and since I am on the hunt for an online teaching job I needed to get this done ASAP. I’m excited about my new possibilities and opportunities….and a week alone in Miami..on the beach.

Divinitee is doing well. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of you who read this blog and have supported. OMG. Everytime I see one of your orders in the inbox I want to cry. You all have been so tremendously supportive, more so than people I know in real life. I can never say thank you enough but to let you know that if you need anything please let me help. If I can’t, I’ll try my best to find someone in my circle who can. Real talk.

I have been shopping..ALOT. At thrift and consignment stores of course. Hopefully I can get a video up sometime this week. I’ve gotten some pretty amazing stuff for very few coins. I’ll make y’all some believers.

I guess that’s enough.

How was your weekend. What’s good in your hood or ‘burb?
