Hair can be a women’s greatest accessory, but it can also be frustrating when your hair isn’t at it healthiest point. I’ve talked about my hair journey here in the past, and I was recently invited to talk on a panel about healthy hair. Essence magazine and Pantene brought together a panel of bloggers, youtubers, and a professional hairstylist in order for us to speak our hair journeys and all that we’ve learned through the process of trial and error.
The event was hosted at Whiskey Blue in the W hotel located in Midtown Atlanta. The entire event was a great opportunity to get some fresh inspiration for new hair products and styling methods. Prior to the panel discussion, there was a plethora of cocktails, eats and massage stations on hand to get everyone relaxed from a long day…and the Atlanta traffic that day just happened to be of epic proportions.
During the event each of us had the opportunity to share what treatments, major cuts, and successes we had all been through. I was able to give the perspective of having to manage my hair and my daughter’s hair along with the struggles I face because we have different hair types.
One method that we talked about for achieving healthy beautiful hair is the importance of getting the right balance of moisture and nutrients (water/oil). So that means ensuring that you keep your hair hydrated with steam and water. As well as incorporating oils and cream moisturizers that put oils back into your hair and allow it to hold its shine and movement.
Aside from the tips and tricks, a huge portion of the dialogue was just talking about the fact that as a women’s greatest accessory it is up to every one of us to decide what we want to do with our own hair. At the end of the day you have to make sure that you are happy with the style or state of your hair. We all have the right to make the decision on what we want to do with our own hair. Straight natural, curly natural or relaxed the main goal is healthy hair!
How are you wearing your hair these days?!!
I am so ecstatic to announce that on Thursday, May 22 I will be one of four panel members on the Pantene/Essence Curly Q’s and Straight Talk panel discussing our hair journeys and healthy hair regimens with Essence beauty and style director Pamela Edwards-Christiani and hair expert, Mann Nance.
If you are in the Atlanta area and would like to join us please see the flyer below for details on how to RSVP. The spaces will go quickly. I look forward to seeing you there!
Earlier in the week in my Weekend in Review post I mentioned that last Thursday I attended a luncheon hosted by Momtrends, Aladdin and Party BluPrints.
The event was held at the beautiful Piedmont Estate. The location was absolutely beautiful, it was like an oasis tucked in the hustle and bustle of Buckhead.
The food was excellent. From the salad to our build your own dessert, the fare was fabulous and mixed in well with the decor that was curated by Party BluPrints using the Aladdin Mason Entertaining Collection.
Prior to making our way upstairs to be seated for lunch, we had a ball downstairs chatting and having sips on a plethora of drink options to include lemonade and some “mommy juice” as I like to call it. You can call it “sprinkling” your drink with a little vodka.
It got a little tricky at times trying to maneuver my “mommy juice” and business cards and purse and camera but I found a way to get a couple of “Mug Shots” in
While my guests were delighted to receive some products from the Aladdin Mason Entertaining Collection at the party I hosted a few weeks ago, I now know that I could’ve upped the décor ante by utilizing these jars in a different capacity from holding flowers, to storing take away gifts, to holding a dessert base where guests can add on different toppings at a dessert bar.
We were able to take away some seasoning rub as well as build a delicious dessert with the mason jars. How clever of Party BluPrints. For more decorating ideas be sure to check out their blog. With products at this price point and accessibility there is no reason your backyard BBQs should be less than stellar this season.
After I ate until I couldn’t eat anymore, and then still snuck in a little more I headed back home. What a delightful Spring luncheon with some fabulous ladies. Thank you Momtrends, Aladdin and Party BluPrints for a great afternoon!

I was provided compensation to facilitate this post. All opinions are mine….you already know!
Maaaaaaan, I am sure at sometime today I will need to use some of the toothpicks that held my stuffed chicken breasts together for last night’s dinner. This time I’ll be using them for my eyelids, while gulping down a large amount of coffee without coming up for air. This weekend has been draining…..but fun.
My weekend kicked off on Thursday with an amazing luncheon with Momtrends that was sponsored by Aladdin and Party BluPrints. Talk about a good time. I’ll give more deets later in the week.
With the Mom 2.0 Summit blogging conference in town last week there were a number of parties happening around town. Thursday evening after getting home and getting the children settled in I slid back out to a party at the Swan House sponsored by Dixie Crystals. There was a table set up where we could mix and match Dixie Crystals sugar with different oils to create body scrubs. I must say mine turned out to be the bomb. A little sugar, some rosemary and grapeseed oil….Bomb.com. I also had a lot of desserts. A lot.
One of the undeniable truths about being a mother is you never find
it okay the time to indulge yourself. The word indulge is not to be confused with something lavish and expensive but instead points to purchasing something as simple as a pretty journal or relaxing candle for yourself.
Taking “mommy guilt” out of the picture sometimes the last thing you want to do is drag a sleepy, crying toddler into an establishment so you can browse and pick up a few things for yourself.
About a week ago I had the pleasure of previewing Atlantic Stations’s newest boutique Abby & Co. and this store set the right environment for Mamas to pick up something for baby and themselves.
Full of awesome….I say.
From baby shower gifts to stationary to those hard to find baby items they have a little bit of everything. A one stop shop.
I had the opportunity to chat with the wife half of the husband and wife duo that owns the store and she stated that their vision was to create a space where Mom could grab something for herself in the midst of purchasing something for her child or a gift for a friend.
The entire store was just full of win. I didn’t know where to look first. Totally one of those places where you are mindlessly picking up things and get to the register to realize you’ve amassed quite the tab.
Believe it or not I left with only things for myself and none for the baby. I think I supported Abby & Co.’s vision!
If you are in Atlanta please be sure to visit the store. It is in Atlantic station near DSW. Please find Abby & Co. on the Web, Twitter and Instagram.
Are you still on the Mommy guilt train and need a little coercing to pick up a few things for yourself? Why?!
