LOL… your face is hilarious. I love Bantu Knot outs… This is my staple hair style, I don’t wear my hair any other way and they last me a week.

    1. I do mine on WET hair
    2. Not a lot of product because they will turn out greesy
    3. I two strand twist my whole head (helps them dry faster), then go back around and knot them
    4. I let them air dry for a day or two
    5. When I take them down I dont over separate because they will get frizzy

and there you have it! lol. It took me a lot of trial and error but I finally have them down =)

I agree with Juicy Carter, try it with wet hair. My cousin did my hair and it worked after letting it completely air dry.

  5. Try on damp hair with a good product, and if you do it on freshly straighened hair then don’t add product. Also make sure it dries 100% through or you’ll have a hot mess to deal with.

I like bantu knots. Every time I do them, they look different on me… depending on where I part my hair, and if I do a wet or dry set. Personally, I don’t think they look bad!! I would have thrown a headband on, fluffed it up a bit more, and rocked it!

  11. Makiea says:

Your face? Hilarity! I do mine on dry hair. It always come out pretty and I actually have heat damage. I can’t do wet hair. It ends up looking like yours lol…try it with carols daughter loc butter

  12. krissy says:

Mimi I think the trick is a light product and letting your hair dry completely. I’ve noticed if my hair is still damp they don’t turn out right. And you gave a lot more hair than I do so I know it takes longer for yours to dry. Maybe try blowdrying the knots before you sleep with them.

  13. Mimi!! I am so sorry but this post is FUN-NAY!! And I have actually done them on both, wet and dry. I like the result of dry better. But you have to make sure your hair is comb though with a little leave in conditioner and some oil or cream. And I let it set overnight and Whalah!! Don’t give up. I tried it a few times before the world saw me in mine!!

  14. ROFLMBO! Your niece did a good job from the looks of the knots! They do take a bit of practice to get right, seems like you needed a holding butter for smoothing and to help encourage the curl. Your hair is nice and healthy nonetheless! #BLM Girls

  15. ChicRoni says:

I’m sorry but I can’t help but laugh at your facial expression. But don’t feel bad…I have never had a sucessful bantu knot out either.

The “after” is what my hair looks like every time I attempt to do my own…needless to say, I haven’t attempted it in a good while.
    Keep practicing! #BLMGirls

  17. Bantu Knots is one of those styles where they may or may not turn out they way you want. I noticed from my own trial and error that doing a set on dry hair makes for better results versus wet hair. Also created bigger pieces can give a more defined look. Keeping trying different things you may discover what works for you.

Thanks for the tips. I think I am going to try with bigger sections since my hair is so long. I’ll definitely be trying it again!

  18. Teems says:

Haha This has definitely happened to me. I have a bantu knot-out in my blogger and twitter aviators. It is one of my favorite techniques (when I let it dry and don’t use too much product). Love your facial expression too! Priceless.

Your facial expression is EVERYTHING! LOL! I agree that you have to try it with wet hair and extra hold settion lotion or mousse. Also, try to make the knots smaller, and dry completely.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! I was just asking about you and Leshe told me your bantu knot story. Well, I have one of my own, shortly after removing my locs I did the bantu knots, I looked JUST LIKE……….Shelia E/Prince! LOL. My sisters CLOWNED me…..I’ve cut my hair now and I haven’t tried them again, but I agree with the other posters, practice will make perfect (or at least wear out the house-able!)

  27. KalleyC says:

Your face says it all. But I think the other posters are right, you gotta try it on wet hair. I do knot-outs on my dreads, and it has to be done wet.

Sometimes the first try doesn’t always go the way we plan, trial and error.
