Summertime Natural Hair Struggle

I despise hair. Absolutely nothing about it sparks my interest and seeing that I have an astronomical amount of it is proof that God has a sense of humor.

I have no idea what type of hair I have on that little natural hair chart and I have no interest in figuring it out. I’ve watched videos and they bore me and the styles don’t work for my hair so I’m stuck with what to do with my hair during these hot, humid months ahead. I like my hair straight, but the humidity and pop up showers in the summer would make me a fool for spending an hour a week pressing it so I turned to pinterest for some inspiration on what to do with my hair.

These are two of the styles that I plan on adding to my usual twist out regimen. I’ll let you know how it turns out

Bunning is always a quick and chic way to keep cool during the summer and give your hair a break from heat styling. I recommend that and/or something that can last you a few days, like two strand twists!

Honestly I do a twist and take them out and fluff it out….such an easy hairdo…the videos bore me too:-) the two dos are real nice!!

I hate summer and hair. My dreads are so heavy that every year all I can think about is cutting them off. I’m going to try to put it up more often, so lots of hair pins will be my friend.

This is a funny post! I do understand what you are saying too. I really do hate loose natural hair thank goodness i’m finally loc’d up. perfect length for summer.. not too long or too short.

I would agree twists outs and buns are great summer hairstyles.

I plan to loc in a few years. When my kids are older and I just want to be free and have fun with my husband I definitely want nothing to do with hair so that is the plan!! In the meantime I just have to wing it!

I love your blog!! Thanks for stopping by

  5. I hate hair as well— I usually let my hair grow out and then cut it all off for the summer ( just did that) but I promised my older son that I wouldn’t cut my hair again till he graduate from high school– so my life sucks–:)

Loving the bun— that’s my norm. for the summer– super easy and chic!

I wash and go most days of the summer. Since I discovered that bantu knots work the same on my hair as rods and wet sets I have taken to doing that. I moisturize my hair nightly and then i knot it.In the morning when i take it down its super fluffy and curly and SHORT! I love that part. In the summer I don’t want my hair touching me much.

    I wish i could wear buns :(

  8. I do a twist out. The hubs absolutely hates buns so I only wear them when he’s not home. But I’ve already had to deal with the heat that comes with big hair and it ain’t pretty.

My TWA is finally growing so I have a bit of length for twists. I’ll wear two strand twist during the week and them let them out on the weekend. I hope it works out for me. Love your hair, and can’t wait until I reach that length:)

I understand! Before i loc’d my hair i had an obscene anount of natural hair to tame! I am so happy that my hair is loc’d up now!!! It’s at the perfect length now! Not too long, not too short!

  12. Jessica says:

I love that bun! So sophisticated. I don’t have a summer hair style in mind, but I think I’ll be going for a lot of updos. It’s too hot here for anything else.

  13. YUMMommy says:

Have you tried getting a silk wrap? I do those because the humidity kills my hair styles too. I’m thinking about getting another hair cut because my hair has already started to grow out and is back to shoulder length. And what about kinky twists or something along those lines in terms of hairstyle? I might have to hit up Pinterest for some inspiration too though!

This is my first summer natural. But so far, I like buns and hats. I saw a Bantu knot tutorial on Pinterest that looked pretty and low maintenance. Those choices you found look really cute.

I almost took some shears to my hair today. Thick natural hair is not fun in the summer…especially here in ATL.

During the summer all I do is wear buns. It’s easy, it’s a neat look, and I love the style. Plus, my hair grows extremely fast when I don’t do much to it.

Summer is horrible on hair, and since we are back in this hot humid area I definitely notice a difference. And the weather is a great indicator that I am not ready to go natural because I would be a hot mess. I would love a short do, but I can’t stand the grow our phase….drives me crazy! So me and my relaxed hair are pretty much wrapped, or a roller set, and then pinned up while I am working out. And don’t even get me started on that chlorine from the pool. LAWD!!
